Welcome to the JRCALC website

The Joint Royal Colleges Ambulance Service Liaison Committee was set up in 1989 to provide a national forum to support the UK Ambulance Service with a particular focus on its interactions with other professional healthcare groups.

It is a large committee with representatives from the Ambulance Service, the Royal Colleges of Physicians, Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Obstetricians & Gynaecologists, General Practitioners, Nursing, Paediatric and Child Health, the Faculty of A&E Medicine and observers from the Department of Health, The Scottish Ambulance Service and NHS Training Executive and The Institute of Healthcare Development.

A wide range of business comes before it falling into areas of policy, audit, training, equipment, practice, process and politics. Whilst the Committee has no executive function it has contributed to changes in the Law (for example to the Prescriptions Only Medicines Act).

Originally based at the Royal College of Physicians, London, it now has its administrative centre at the East Midlands Ambulance Trust HQ, Beechdale Road, Nottingham NG8 3LL. Committee meetings are held three times a year at the Royal College of Anaesthetists, Churchill House, London.
